About Turkish Society of Waterloo Region
The Turkish Society of Waterloo Region is a non-profit cultural organization dedicated to fostering Turkish heritage and community engagement throughout Waterloo, ON and the surrounding region. Since its establishment in 1999, TSWR has developed a comprehensive range of programs and activities designed to celebrate Turkish culture while building meaningful connections within the local Turkish-Canadian community. The organization operates a Turkish language school serving children ages 4 to 13, providing foundational education in language and cultural traditions. Throughout the year, TSWR organizes diverse events including Turkish nights, youth gatherings, and community picnics that bring together members of all ages. The society actively participates in regional festivals such as the KW Multicultural Festival, maple syrup festival, and Turkish festival, extending cultural awareness beyond the Turkish community to the broader Waterloo Region. Additionally, TSWR demonstrates community commitment through charitable partnerships, supporting organizations including the Cancer Society, Grand River Hospital, Red Cross, and local mosques. The organization is currently working toward establishing a cultural centre that will serve as a gathering space for the Turkish community while benefiting the entire Waterloo Region. With a growing Turkish population of over 4,000 individuals in the region, TSWR continues to expand its communications efforts through publications designed to keep the community informed about events, activities, and news.
